The Activist “Other”. Conceptions and Practices in Activism within Kirchnerismo and Macrismo

Abstract

Arguing that it is possible to find grassroots activism within PRO and kirchnerismo, this paper proposes to study the meanings that activism has in these two political forces, comparing them around two questions: a) how they conceive activism and what it implies; b) how activist engagement is articulated with a participation in the State. Based on the accounts of militants, we will seek to outline an approach on these two activist profiles in the recent years, claiming that mutual differentiation is explicitly present in the way they define themselves. The interpretation will nurture from the analysis of semistructured interviews with activists, leaders and law makers from PRO and the Frente para la Victoria, and it will be supplemented with field notes of political rallies.
