Abstract

How do the peripheral states react to changes when distribution of power occurs? What conduct in the security field is expected when a situation of double periphery emerge in a region? This paper seeks to answer these questions by combining Carlos Escudé’s peripheral realism with neoclassical realism, looking to cover aspects of security policy that previous versions of Escudé’s work did not do. Thus, by reorienting his theoretical work from the field of foreign policy to the security one to answer those questions we can shape a more solid theory, strengthening it with aspects that he had not tried, extending its explanatory vitality for peripheral countries.
