University and Contingency in Chile. Crisis Financing, Accreditation and Government University

Abstract

The universities are influenced by the changes in the environment. Technological innovations, globalization, the reduction of the state, liberalization of markets, increased demand, quality assurance and the new demands of labor specialization among other processes have involved challenges to its traditional operation. Chile enjoys a moment of crisis in education seen in different ways by the actors stressing the debate and discusses the university structures. Emerge a challenge to models of financing, accreditation mechanisms and forms of university governance. The crisis coincides with student protests and deepened by allegations of corruption, problems of efficiency and effectiveness, as it discredits the institutions. Identifying predominant types of guidance versus the potential for change enables the analysis of scenarios in which the university situation is expressed in the country.
