Río Negro Province among 1983-2003: Radical Dominance under Diffrerent Models

Abstract

Since the return of democracy in 1983, the province of Río Negro, until 2011, held the continued dominance of the Unión Cívica Radical, shaping it in a special case in the context of political science and historical research of subnational spaces. Also from the analysis of populism concern begins to emerge to address these areas, leading to the study of “subnational populism”. The aim of this article is to achieve a first approach to the subject, contributing to this research area a tour on Unión Cívica Radical’s provincial management, that formed from different bases radical political dominance. Consequently, government’s managements and their state models are discussed, basically opposiong the keys of the prevalence among the first governor, Osvaldo Alvarez Guerrero (1983-1987), and the third, Pablo Verani (1995-2003), representing two very different development stages of democracy.
