Abstract

This research aims to understand the international relations between Argentina and the People's Republic of China (PRC) from the foundation of the new socialist state in 1949 to the Argentina’s rapprochement with PRC in 1970. It intends to shed light on key trends in Argentina’s foreign policy towards PRC during this period by analyzing the economic relations with PRC and the position taken by different Argentinian government administrations regarding chinese representation in the United Nations General Assembly. Additionally, this study examines the role of local ruling classes in Argentina in either promoting or obstructing the Argentina-China relations and the position of the United States in the context of the Cold War.
