Some Details (and Perspectives) on Equity, Democracy and Governance at the Beginning of the 21st Century

This article explores the tensions among the concepts of democracy and/or equity, on the one hand, and governability, on the other. In present societies, in which political government has become more difficult, governability has gone away from democracy and the rule of law due to their difficulties to develop completely. Consequently, the international credit agencies’ presion concentrates exclusively on governability. Likewise, and somewhat pessimistically, it argues that inequalities continue to be the principal enemies of democracy and will continue to impede its development.
