Between the Recent and the Contemporary. Notes for a Provincial History of Democracy

Abstract

This article provides a reflection on the ways in which recent historical inquiry on post 1893 democracy has been shaped by social sciences. In this line of reasoning, we shall propose a historiography state of the art on provincial democracy, identifying the main hypothesis and debates that featured sociological as well as political science inquiry. Then, we will test such hypothesis by contrasting them with the most recent researched conducted on the field of Santa Fe´s political history. Finally, the article concludes proposing a series of periodizations for a research agenda on three of democracy´s main topics: electoral laws, political parties and leaderships.
