Abstract

This article, Dahl’s most recent text, is an overview of basic democratic ideas and institutions from the birth of democracy in Greece to the present. It also reviews the most important theories regarding the possibility and functioning of democracy, and concludes with a discussion of some of the problems and challenges that democracy faces as form of government.
