Argentine-Chilean Border Problems: Continental Ice. Analysis of the Negotiation and Alternative Solutions to the Polygonal

Abstract

Between August 1991 and August 1993 a negotiation process took place between the Argentinean and Chilean governments, which resulted in the solution to the border dispute towards the “Hielos Continentales” (or Continental Ice), known as “the polygonal”. This process is analyzed and described throughout this article. Furthermore, the authors propose at the end a series of solutions to the conflict, which they consider feasible and appropriate.
