Abstract

Most of the studies of presidential leadership have emphasized the ascension and main tenance of power of the leaders, however, there are leaderships that transcend presidential functions. These leaderships, known here as post-presidential leader ships, used various mechanisms-post-presidential resources-to return to political power or simply to occupy someimportant position in the public administration. It is important to emphasize that this investigative work reveals a phenomenon that has not been studied at all, focused in the Ecuadorian reality, complementing the studies already carried out on political leadership and presidential leadership in the country, and opening a new way for research that considers the influence that the post-presidential leaders have in SouthAmerican democracies and in other regions ofthe globe.
