Alterity, Fears and Uses of Public Space: Recreative Street in the City of Rosario (2010-2017)

Without placing unfinished expectations in the public space we want to value it as a field of interesting dispute in the making of the city and, as a consequence, as a producer and product of the social relations that develop in it. The format of recreational cycle lanes is, in this sense, innovative in the conversion of public space by temporarily opening the streets for free to citizens while closing them for motor traffic. Without falling into a romantic vision of this type of circuits, these are public spaces perceived as safe even if they are not in the daily life of the city. In light of the case of Rosario: What factors contribute to reducing uncertainty and danger and, therefore, fear in the public space? Who are they and what for in the CR in the city of Rosario? Who and what for meet at CR in the city of Rosario? Is the different occupation of this public space, coupled with certain mechanisms of state containment of the same, sufficient to reduce the sense of insecurity?
