The Ecuadorian-Peruvian Border Conflict and Regional Security Mechanisms

Abstract

The article aims to assess which has been the role played by regional institutions and security agencies in Latin America at the time of settling border disputes among its members. The focus is on the Peru-Ecuador conflict of 1995. The analysis is centered on the relation between the degree of political will of the actors involved and the role of the Organization of American States (OAS) in the process of conflict resolution.
