Abstract

Throughout the article, the authors account for the variations that presidentialism may present in Latin America. They understand that the origin of these differences lies in the characteristics of party systems in each country, which affect their respective legislatures and also on executive-legislative relations. The main differences arise when comparing the number of parties, their size, and the level of party discipline and the influence of legislation on such systems.
although they are not the only ones, these institutional issues are very important to explain the uneven performance of presidential regimes in Latin America.
